A small compilation of nurse anesthesia care plans

These anesthesia care plans are meant to inspire nurse anesthesia residents when they are making their care plans. Always make sure you fully understand and "own" your care plan. Your plan must be specific for your patient and should always be with the most up-to-date information.

Closed Reduction Wrist

Surgical procedure

Bone manipulation without skin incision. X-rays ensure the correct position. The procedure, which could be short, requires the patient to be sedated. The patient will be supine on the table, and an arm board may be used.

Patients with dislocations may have signs of neurological compromise, specifically the median nerve. The median nerve originates from the Brachial Plexus and enters the forearm with the brachial artery. It innervates the skin of the palmer side of the thumb, the index and middle fingers, half the ring finger, and the nail beds of these fingers.

Surgical Considerations

Previous unsuccessful attempts

Pt anxiety (separation anxiety, body image, fear of not waking up)

Pain management - possible need for IV access

Preferable mask with sevoflurane

Consider LMA if needed for a more prolonged procedure
