These anesthesia care plans are meant to inspire nurse anesthesia residents when they are making their care plans. Always make sure you fully understand and "own" your care plan. Your plan must be specific for your patient and should always be with the most up-to-date information.

Sarcoidosis

Etiology

Disorder of unknown etiology, where granulomas occurring multiple organ systems, most commonly lungs, lymphatics, bone, liver, and nervous system

Symptoms

The patient may present with respiratory symptoms such as dyspnea and cough

Some (5%) may have laryngeal sarcoidosis, which may interfere with ETT passage

Hypercalcemia is seen in 10% of patients, a classic symptom

Polyneuropathy, due to the presence of granulomatous lesions in peripheral nerves, is a common finding

Unilateral or bilateral facial nerve paralysis may result from sarcoid involvement of the parotid gland

Anesthetic Considerations

Monitor for respiratory compromise preoperatively

Phonate "e" to evaluate the patency of RLN

Monitor for any facial nerve issues (numbness, tingling)

Any peripheral neuropathies are to be documented pre-procedure
